Zill Drills - How to Play Finger Cymbals with Zaina and Susu - DVD

This is a great dvd. One of its strengths is that they teach you how to play along with specific arabic rhythms ( as opposed to many zill DVDs where they teach patterns but don't relate them to the rhythms you hear in arabic music.) I think this helps you learn to recognize the rhythms which is great for drum solos. Another really wonderful feature that I don't always see are the different ways to strike the zills to get different sounds. ( the "ring" the "clack" and the "tek.") She gives a set way to use these sounds in each rhythm, but it gives me ideas about how to play around and create my own. I do wish however that they had incorporated more musicality, it would have been really nice if they had gone over how to count the rhythms. That would have been especially helpful in distinguishing rhythms that are similar ( like beledi and saidi.) It's a very low-key/casual feeling DVD; they sit the whole time, the drummer doesn't really smile or show much emotion but I thought they were both professional. I would recommend this DVD to anyone.

This dvd have a lot of rythms ( are written and also Zaina break it in parts). They are sit down all the time, so it isn't a dance zills dvd. I'd recommend it if you want to learn how to play zils to the next level ( with combinations i've never heard), and later you can put your own dance steps.
